Terms of Service

By creating an account or using PaperTax, you agree to these Terms. They are short and written to be understood.

What PaperTax is — and is not

PaperTax is an AI-powered tax filing copilot for Swiss individual tax returns. You upload your documents, Claude Agent reads them, and we produce a field-by-field guide showing what to type in your canton's official tax application (for example VSTax in Valais, ZHprivateTax in Zurich, or whichever app your canton uses). You then file yourself.

PaperTax is not a tax advisor, a fiduciary, or a licensed professional service. We do not file anything on your behalf, do not provide investment or FINMA-regulated advice, and do not replace a certified Swiss tax advisor. You are solely responsible for your tax declaration; PaperTax guidance does not constitute a binding ruling from any cantonal or federal tax authority.

For what the AI can and cannot do, see the AI Disclaimer.

02

No advisory mandate

By using PaperTax you confirm that no mandate relationship within the meaning of Art. 394 ff. of the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR) is formed between you and the operators — whether for tax, legal, financial, or any comparable advisory purpose. No duty of care, ongoing obligation, or advisory relationship arises from your use of the service, from any AI-generated guidance, or from any communication with us.

If your situation is anything other than a straightforward salaried return, talk to a certified Swiss tax advisor before filing. When in doubt, ask a human.
03

Account, price, payment

You must be at least 18 and a Swiss tax resident to use PaperTax. Register with email + password (minimum 12 characters), Google, or Apple. Keep your credentials confidential and tell us at contact@papertax.ch if you suspect unauthorized access. Each account is for individual personal use only — no sharing, no reselling.

PaperTax costs CHF 50 per return (one tax year, one canton). Payment is required before you can upload documents, run AI extraction, or use the guide and chat — the app is locked until you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number, CVV, or bank account details.

No refunds. The only exceptions are a duplicate charge by mistake or a technical failure on our side that prevents the guide from being generated. Email us and we'll respond within 5 business days.
04

Your documents and acceptable use

You retain full ownership of every document you upload. By uploading you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process it solely to provide the service to you; the license ends when you delete the document or your account. Documents must belong to you or you must be authorized to process them; third-party personal data (spouse, dependents) requires their consent. For how your data is stored, shared, and retained, see the Privacy Policy.

You must independently verify every entry produced by the AI before typing it into your cantonal tax application. Failure to verify is contributory fault under Art. 44 OR and may reduce or eliminate any claim you might otherwise have against us.

You may not use PaperTax to process returns for third-party clients without prior written agreement, use bots or scripts to access the service, attempt to reverse-engineer our prompts or models, access another user's data, upload malicious content, or resell or sublicense PaperTax.

05

No warranty, limitation of liability, third-party providers

PaperTax is an experimental service provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law. We do not warrant that the AI guidance is accurate, complete, or current; that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free; or that any cantonal tax authority will accept a return prepared with our help. Swiss cantonal and federal tax law changes frequently and we make no warranty that the guidance reflects the most recent amendments.

We do not cover, and are not liable for, any of the following losses — these remain your responsibility as the person who reviews, verifies, and submits your tax return: tax penalties, surcharges, interest, fines, or assessments from any tax authority; costs of hiring a tax advisor, fiduciary, or lawyer to correct errors; costs of filing an amended return; audit costs or adjustments; loss of data, loss of profit, or business interruption; consequences of entering AI-generated guidance without independently verifying it first; or disruptions caused by third-party providers.

Swiss law limits what can be excluded (Art. 100 OR): Nothing above limits our liability for intentional wrongdoing or gross negligence on our part. Those protections exist for you by law and cannot be contracted away.

PaperTax relies on third-party infrastructure — Anthropic (Claude Agent), Vercel (hosting and compute), Supabase (database and authentication), and Stripe (payment processing). Pursuant to Art. 101(2) OR we exclude liability for acts or omissions of these auxiliaries — including AI model errors, hallucinations, or outages caused by Anthropic — for simple and medium-level negligence. Liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct is not excluded. We are also not liable for delays or failures caused by third-party API outages, internet disruptions, government actions, cyberattacks, or natural events.

06

Termination, changes, governing law

You may close your account at any time via account settings → Delete Account. On deletion, your documents, guide data, and account are deleted immediately. Two retention exceptions: payment reference data may be retained for up to 5 years per Swiss limitation periods (Art. 127 OR), and server security logs may be retained for up to 90 days under legitimate interest for fraud detection. We may suspend or terminate your account with notice for Terms violations or suspected fraud; immediate termination without notice is reserved for urgent security action.

For material changes to these Terms (affecting your rights, pricing, or data handling), we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

These Terms are governed exclusively by Swiss law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles; the CISG does not apply. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zürich, Switzerland. EU/EEA consumers may also bring claims before the courts of their country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects mandatory consumer rights under Swiss or EU law that cannot be contracted away. These Terms are written in English; translations are for convenience only and the English version controls.
